January 2020 Readathon wrap up

We’ve reached the end of January’s readathon! Good job everyone, I hope you all had a fun week and managed to tackle some reading!

I would like to thank everyone who joined in with the sprints that we hosted over the week and sincerely apologise to those of you I missed. If we miss your tweet feel free to sent us a message cause sometime our notifications mess around.

We can’t wait to see your wrap ups of what you read over the week, so make sure to tag us in them or use the hashtag #SeriesTF2020. Here are the ones you’ve send us:

Just a reminder

Only series that are completely completed, meaning no more books are set to be released in the future count towards the overall challenge. This means series like the Wayward Children (it’s just been released that more books are coming) can not be in your TBRs. That doesn’t mean you can’t read them in the readathons as you can read any book part of a series for the readathons.

January STF releases and Buddy Reads

Welcome to our first releases post!

As you will notice, these posts will not feature all the releases of their corresponding month, rather those releases that people have added to their Series TBR. We hope this serves as both a reminder and motivations for readers, and might also grab the attention of other participants.

At the end, you will find the buddy reads that are planned for the month. They will be linked to either their Goodreads page or a discussion post. If we update this throughout January, we will let you know.

Disclaimer: In order to avoid spoilers in these posts, we always add the synopsis for the first book in the series and link the books to their series page.

Come Tumbling Down

Series: Wayward Children #5
Release: January 7th
Readers: Anna, Tiffany

The author claimed there are plans for at least 3 more books so this series cannnot be read for the challenge.

Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere… else.
But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.
Nancy tumbled once, but now she’s back. The things she’s experienced… they change a person. The children under Miss West’s care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.
But Nancy’s arrival marks a change at the Home. There’s a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of the matter.
No matter the cost.

One of Us is Next FINAL cover.inddOne of Us Is Next

Series: One of Us Is Lying #2
Release: January 7th
Readers: Anna, Tiffany, Elyse, Lauren

Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Series: London Celebrities #5
Release: January 20th
Readers: Anna, Tiffany

Richard Troy used to be the hottest actor in London, but the only thing firing up lately is his temper. We all love to love a bad boy, but Richard’s antics have made him Enemy Number One, breaking the hearts of fans across the city.
Have the tides turned? Has English rose Lainie Graham made him into a new man?
Sources say the mismatched pair has been spotted at multiple events, arm in arm and hip to hip. From fits of jealousy to longing looks and heated whispers, onlookers are stunned by this blooming romance.
Could the rumors be right? Could this unlikely romance be the real thing? Or are these gifted stage actors playing us all?

January Buddy reads

Are you going to add any of these to your Series TBR? Are you reading any books from these series regardless of the challenge? Let’s discuss them together!

January #SeriesTF2020 readathon

The readathon will run from Monday the 6th to Sunday the 12th of January. It will start at midnight in whatever timezone you’re in.

Similarly to the yearly challenge, you can read any genre and/or format BUT whatever you read has to be a part of a series. For the readathon, unlike with the yealy challenge, it does not matter if the series is finished or not, the only rule is that you need to read books that belong in a series.

Of course! Again, this is meant to helps us with our series, so everyone is welcome. You do not need to sign up anywhere for the readathons, but you can still share your intentions to participate or your TBR.

This year we are doing a Points System, which awards you points for every book (that is part of a series) read.

We’ll be making a thread on Goodreads soon so you can post your updates there too.

Let’s start buddy reading!

A few of you have asked for this or have suggested, throughout 2019 that you’d like to do more buddy reads. Tiffany and myself love buddy reading, and after polling you on that and agreeing with us, we decided to take a leap of faith. However, we get that finding a book that everyone agrees on or wants to read for our monthly read will be very tough, so instead, we decided to settle on group buddy reads.

How will we decide what to read?

We have taken a look at what you all want to read and we will be suggesting buddy reads base on those common books and sequels that are coming out soon. This is one of the reasons why we appreciate you sharing your TBRs with us and updating the spreadsheet. You can also ask for a buddy read or contact another participant directly to start one.

You do not need to be reading that book to discuss it, if you have read the book in question recently, or you have not but remember it very well, just jump into the discussion, the more the merrier!

How do we discuss the book?

Unless you tell us otherwise, we will be opening a thread on our Goodreads group for discussions. But this depends on who’s buddy reading what and how many people are joining in. Some people prefer discussing through private messages, others might use Twitter, or maybe you know the other person and want to talk it with them or send audio messages. We are here for you.

Why not have a single book of the month?

Apart from what we said, that it will be tough to find a book everyone agrees on, we gathered it would be easier for everyone this way. For example, if you cannot get a book in time or you are simply not interested in a particular one, you still have other options for buddy reads! And, as we said, we are taking those suggestions directly from you and your TBRs in hopes you have more opportunities to find the perfect BR for you.

How do I find out about upcoming buddy reads?

Every month, we will be highlighting upcoming Series to Finish book releases and including future and agreed on buddy reads. Apart from that, we have opened a thread on the group where we will add every buddy read that’s coming up.

Buddy reads are lot of fun and make you appreciate what you read even more. Plus, remember that buddy reading gives you extra points!

Points System (get points while reading series)

We have been thinking of ways to make the challenge more fun for everyone, and people have also showed us interest in it, so we want to introduce the Points System. As always, all these things are optional, and you can decide whether you want to join in on them or not.

The main idea is that, every month, you will be collecting points for every book that you read that is part of a series (even if it’s not on your Series TBR). This is not a competition, we do not want to add any pressure to the challenge, so if you want to play against someone, that someone will be yourself. You can compare your results each month to see how you’re doing.

How do I get points?

  • +1 for book completed (they need to be part of a series, even if it’s not on your TBR)
    • +0.5 on manga/comics and novellas (except bind-ups, they get that +1) – more on this below
  • +1 for starting a series
  • +1 for finishing a series
  • +1 for buddy reading

You only get the above points if you have finished the book. However, you can get the following points even if you have not completed the book:

  • +1 point for every 100 pages read (per book, not total)
    • For graphic novels, comics and manga it is 0.5 every 100 pages – more below
Novellas/Graphic Novels/Comics/Manga

Novellas/Short Stories

  • If they are an essential/main read (like Wayward Children), there will be no difference between a book and a novella points-wise
  • However, if they are not  primary works (like Reveal Me), you will get 0.5 points for completing it instead of 1

Graphic Novels/Comics/Manga

  • You get the same amount of points as any book apart from the number of pages:
    • For these, points will be cut in half, so every 100 pages it’s 0.5

Let’s see how I did last month and how many points I would get for those books:

  • +5 for completing five books that were part of a series
  • +1 or starting 1 series: Famous in Love
  • +2 for finishing 2 series: Legend and Famous in Love
  • +2 for buddy reading Chosen and Rebel
  • +3 for Famous in Love (336 pages)
  • +2 for Chosen (261 pages)
  • +3 for Tunnel of Bones (304 pages)
  • +3 for Truly Madly Famously (320 pages)
  • +3 for Rebel (384 pages)
  • +4 for Lord of Shadows (439 pages read)
  • Total points: 28

Notice that I did get my page points for every individual book, not for my total read, so if a book has 299 pages, you’ll only get 2 points, even if you read 30 more pages from a different book.

December #SeriesTF2019 Day 6 (Challenge + Update)

It’s the weekend, wooooooooo! At least for me that means more reading time (hopefully) and the start of my winter holidays. I hope it’s similar for you.

For the weekend we’re shifting a bit the focus of our photo challenges and making them more relaxed and in tune to those weekend vibes. So for day 6 we want to know you’re favourite Christmas movie. As always, you can interpret it however you see fit: your all-time favourite Christmas movie, a movie you always associate with Christmas, a film you always watch for these dates, one that needs more attention, a childhood favourite… you decide.

And, as we have been doing, we’re gonna link your day 6 updates here:
